Regional Transit Blueprint Gateway
Welcome to the Regional Transit BluePrint website, your gateway to planning for major transit capital investments in the Research Triangle Region. From this site, you can access the following transit investment activities:
- Transit Infrastructure BluePrint Technical Analysis
This effort, undertaken in 2007-08, examined land use, travel market and cost characteristics of potential major transit corridors. You can access technical information by going to this page, although some of the technical information may have been superseded by work on the subsequent projects listed in this section.
- Special Transit Advisory Commission
A joint commission appointed by the region's two metropolitan planning organizations to advise elected officials on future transit investments, the "STAC" made recommendations on a vision for major transit investments. The STAC used technical information from the Blueprint Technical Analysis and its members' expertise and experience to develop a set of recommendations consisting of expanded bus service, targeted rail service and high-quality transit circulators in selected activity centers. It issued its final report in May 2008. You can access the report and other information prepared as part of the STAC process by going to this page.
- 2035 Long Range Transportation Plans
Completed in May 2009, a single regional long range transportation plan was jointly prepared and approved by the region's two organizations with the authority for approving plans and projects: the Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro MPO and the NC Capital Area MPO. The transit component of the plan largely incorporates the recommendations of the STAC, and goes a step further by identifying what transit investments will be made during which time periods, what they will cost and how they will be paid for.
You can access details on the 2035 plan -- which in addition to transit includes road, pedestrian/bicycle, Transportation Demand Management and other investments -- by going to either of the MPO websites listed above or you can download the full plan directly at this link.
- Land Use and Community Infrastructure Development (LUCID)
This effort, begun in 2009 by Triangle Transit and the Triangle J Council of Governments, along with community and MPO partners, focuses on 4 elements critical to the successful implementation of the regional transit service adopted in the 2035 Long Range Plan:
- Alignments, technology and service characteristics of planned transit service.
- The costs of services and the revenues to pay for them.
- Land use that matches the transit investments.
- Supporting infrastructure (such as sidewalks) and policies (such as Transportation Demand Management) that make transit readily accessible and more convenient for travelers.
